Recomended PDF Viewer

Diposting oleh adh-id on 12.9.13

PDF viewer's an important package in a distribution because many e-books takes PDF format. I've ever used X-PDF, adobe reader for linux, and evince as my pdf viewer. From these three, I'd like suggesting you to use evince. Why ?. Because its performance's better than X-PDF (There was lag when scroling it down) and of course its size's smaller than adobe reader for linux. To know about evince complete feature, you should visit its website.

Formatting Flashdisk via Terminal

Diposting oleh adh-id on 4.9.13

There had no option to format flashdisk using mouse right click in fedora.  But don't worry.  We can make it happened from terminal.
  • Locate our flashdisk in file system [$ fdisk -l or $ df] (e.q. It took place on /dev/sdd1).
  • Unmount it [# umount /dev/sdd1].
  • Now, we can do formatting [# mkfs.vfat -n 'UrFlashDisk_Name' /dev/sdd1].
Done.  It should be applied on others linux  distros.

yoono: Social Network Manager

Diposting oleh adh-id on 24.8.13

Since I’ve had troubles using some social network managers in fedora LXDE, I tried to look for its alternative. Finally I found it. Not only running well in this desktop environment, it also feature-rich. It’s not like hotot or twitdeck which just handles limited kinds of service. You can find more in yoono.

It offers us two ways in usage; installed on desktop or on our browser. I chose the first way. To start using yoone, you need its installer. Now go to yoono website and Choose the proper installer to our operating system (in this case, we’re going to run it under fedora linux LXDE). After downloaded, extract it, go to extracted directory (yoono-desktop), and run the executable file.

[adh.id@localhost Downloads]$ tar yoono-desktop-1.8.43.tar.bz2
[adh.id@localhost Downloads]$ cd yoono-desktop
[adh.id@localhost Downloads]$ ./yoono-desktop

Now let’s start managing our social network accounts. If you’re interested, let you figure it now.

Gigolo

Diposting oleh adh-id on 22.8.13

I've got a little surprise when exploring fedora's submenu.  It was "gigolo" hanging out there.  Have I had wrong sight ?.  Maybe you know what I mean [;)]. The word "gigolo" has had negative connotation in Indonesia [:D].  It means ... (ask your grandpa 'google').

But before further in wrong perception, I run this app to find out more.  And Oops...  Evidently, it's frontend app to easily manage connections to local and remote file system that allows us to quickly connect or mount a remote file system and manage bookmark of such.

About its strange name, it was explained in its website, "It mounts what it is told to".  Yes sir, I understood.  It has explained evething [:D].  Finally, who wants to try gigolo or be an gigolo expert ?.

Open .iso Files

Diposting oleh adh-id on 21.8.13

In Windows, we need app such as virtual cd or daemon tool to mount an .iso file. But in Linux, we just need console to mount it. Basic used command's #mount <filename.iso> /destination_dir (I think it must be a file system, not a home's directories). e.q., I put xxx.iso file in /home and I'd like to mount it on /media. So, login as root and type this following command
on your console:

[adh.id@localhost]# mount xxx.iso /media

If the session's enough, you can unmount it just by changing the line 'mount' to 'umount'. You can do so with your image.

Diposting oleh adh-id on 20.8.13

Touchpad click configuration on Fedora 19's disabled by default. To enable it, create a file (e.q. named 10-synaptic-tap.conf) in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d as root.
[root@localhost adh-id]# nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptic-tap.conf
Add this script as its content.
Section "InputClass"
       Identifier "tap-by-default"

Install Fedora 19

Diposting oleh adh-id on 12.8.13

Generally, installing fedora's alike to other linux distribution. It takes at least these steps: setting place, language, keyboard, and network, partitioning the disk, creating user and setting up the password, and begining to install. My foccus on this documentation's in partitioning disk. I just warn you how important it is so that you should take care of the step, especially for dual booting user. Always use manual method to configure it if you won't loose you data.

I'll make an assumption in this documentation. I have dual OS on my system ; Debian and Windows ; and I'd like to change debian into fedora. I prefer choosing LXDE as my desktop environment because from some sources I read it run faster then gnome. I'm going to install it via flashdisk which installer is also available on fedora website (it means I have to download both of iso linux and its liveusb-creator).

Let’s pass setting up the place, language, etc. step and we’re going to create the disk partition. Fedora 19 will detect free space automatically. Just follow all the steps. If not enough space, it'll be caution and now’s our time to customize the partition.

Still in assumption, there’re three partitions in our disk before ; new fedora partition (just 4,2 GB in size), unknown linux (128 GB), and other (90 GB). After choosing custum partition, we’ll be faced to option window. Mark unknown linux (it can be system, data, or your swap), apply the deed to all, and delete it. Now we have 132,2 GB of free disk space. Let’s create some new partition by clicking + sign. For example, I’ll make three partitions here ; 2,2 GB of swap, 20 GB of root, and its remain as home. After done, click on ‘begin to instal’ and just follow the instruction until the installation’s finished.

To begin, just restart the live fedora’s iso and login as usual. Enjoy your new experience.
